Saxon Phonics is an explicit, systematic phonics program for kindergarten, first, and second grades that provides continuous review and incremental development of reading skills, each building on previously learned information.
The following testimonials provide poignant evidence of its effectiveness:
From Fort Payne, Alabama"I have taught school for 23 years. This technique teaches all children. I am truly amazed with special needs children that are learning to read and code words. I love this program." J.M.JFrom Cantwell, Alaska"I had some students this year that could not learn the letters and their sounds. I had tried everything and then I started using Saxon Phonics. My students immediately started to learn and love it!" S.W.
From Denver, Colorado"This is my second year using the phonics program. I love it! All of my last year's students went to 2nd grade as good readers. 5 of them were reading chapter books at the end of school. It is so easy to teach and the results are terrific. Parents love it. It works with all ability levels. In my 30 years of teaching this is the best phonics I have everseen. It is wonderful!" H.B. 1st Grade
From Hartford, Connecticut"This is the best phonics program that I have ever used. The children and I are having fun learning every day. I would buy this program with my own money if the school system does not provide it for me next year. That is how much I believe in this program. It works!!! I love it and so do the children!" M.F.E.
From Pelican, Florida"My class, in November, would not recognize all the letters in the alphabet. Now (May) according to the Burns and Roe IRI (Informal Reading Inventory), they are reading at 2nd and 3rd grade levels." J.L. K-2nd Grade
From Logansport, Indiana"The children can read! Easily! The children are super spellers! Creative writing is a natural! This program REALLY works! Parents were unsure, at first and I heard them say they were 'flunking' 1st grade phonics, but they are learning it and seem happy with the results!. Their children can read!!" J.S. 1st Grade
From Pretty Prairie, Kansas"This is the 2nd year I've taught 1st grade Saxon Phonics. I have taught for 13 years and this program has helped me teach reading skills better than I ever have before. When we ordered the program last year, you offered us a free kit for every 2 ordered. We gave the kit to our kindergarten teacher. Those last year kindergartners are now my 1st graders - 85% of them were already reading when they entered my 1st grade classroom. WOW! Normally, only about 20% would be reading. Saxon Phonics really made the difference." B.H.
From Page, Nebraska" My kindergartners used to dread phonics. It wasn't exciting for them, and the program we used didn't bring them even half as far as Saxon does. They always expect to learn to read when they come to school, and with Saxon Phonics, they're reading in the first quarter! I received lots of positive comments from parents throughout the school year and the summer. They said their kids were trying to sound out words everywhere! One day, toward the end of the year, when the Principal was observing, we were working on [the readers] and the kids were reading to me. The Principal asked one of the girls to read to him. After class, he asked how long they had been practicing, because she'd read so well. He couldn't believe it when I told him they had been given the readers for the first time that day!" S.W.
It is clear from these observations by classsroom teachers that Saxon Phonics provides an excellent road map for scientifically based reading instruction which uses explicit, systematic phonics. Fortunate indeed are the children who receive this kind of reading teaching, beginning in kindergarten.
